Bone Appetite Barkery started in 2005 simply by accident with a fatal diagnosis of Juvenile Renal Disease in a 4 month old Bull Mastiff puppy and a determination to beat the odds.  After a frustrating searching for healthy treats at an affordable price, I thought who better to make treats than myself.

After months of research, recipe trials and lots of errors, taste testing by both canine and human, consultations with a local veterinarian and countless hours passing out samples on the Montour Trail, we knew we had something special.   We tested our treats on dogs who do not like treats, dogs with illnesses, and on dogs that would eat anything.  Discriminating canines were barking up a storm and owners were happy at the very thought of an affordable custom baker for their pets.  From that point on, Bone Appetite Barkery was in business.

Bone Appetite BarkeryOur mission is to simply fresh-bake our very own lip smackin’, tail waggin’, dog droolin’ dog treats, using only all natural ingredients and organics with no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners, no artificial colors, no added salts or sugars, no animal fat or by~products.  We select all of our ingredients for what they don’t have!  Organic fruits, vegetables and herbs are used in our recipes whenever possible since these are seasonal.  We even use local honey fresh from the working honeybees of the Fine Family Apiary located in Monongahela, Pennsylvania.  We cater to the allergy prone by substituting whole wheat flour with Spelt, potato or rice flour and have a special recipe for those with diabetes.  Because we custom bake, hand mix, hand cut and hand decorate our treats, they are not mass produced, frozen or warehouse stored.  Our promise to our customers is to NEVER compromise quality for quantity!

With an overwhelming response from the canine community, Bone Appetite Barkery continues to grow by leaps and barks.  To accommodate our custom orders, we continue to add new treats every year.  In 2008 we added 9 new flavors and 2 are wheat free.  We also added dried Bonito Tuna Flakes for our feline friends.  Bone Appetite is still a very, very small business; we like it that way and want to keep it personal ~ the way we like to be treated. 

We are Pennsylvania State Licensed and comply with ALL state rules and regulation.  We are also endorsed by South Hills Veterinarian Dr. David Dorn of the West Liberty Animal Hospital.  

So what is this license hype all about?  Bone Appetite Barkery is not like several other dog treat businesses that have made the negligent choice to either not fully comply with the law or not comply at all.  Pennsylvania law is straight forward ~ get a license AND get your treats analyzed.  I ask.. if they are cheating with regards to these simple rules set forth to protect, are they not cheating your pet and you?  Know that we are licensed and fully comply with the law to protect each and every one of our canine customers and their human companions.

Our pets are part of our family. We want the best for our pets and we know you feel the same way about yours.  Bottom line is that we wouldn't offer anything to your dog that we wouldn't feed own dogs.
